Celebration of Piceance-East Douglas Horses
Saturday, May 6th
Please spread the word to join the Friends of the Mustangs and the BLM for a celebration of the Piceance-East Douglas wild horses on May 6, 2017. We'll lead tours starting around 10 a.m. to help people learn the area and see its wild horses, followed by a barbecue at the Yellow Creek Corrals located at the intersection of Rio Blanco County Road 20 and 122 at 5 p.m. We hope to generate more public interest in this herd, and ideally help start a similar partner group like FOM to help with its management. For more information, call Kathy DeGonia at 928-707-1236 or Melissa Kindall (BLM) at 970-878-3842.
Saturday, May 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Join the Friends of the Mustangs for a “Mustang Safari” to explore the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range. Don’t miss this chance to view the mustangs in their natural environment, be amazed at their wild beauty, and see first-hand their familial social structure. Drive your own high-clearance vehicle or carpool with others in the guided caravan. The number of participants is limited. Call 970-260-2783 or 970-216-9571 to reserve a spot and get more details.
We will meet at the Kum & Go convenience store in De Beque at 8:45 a.m.

Please welcome Friends of the Mustangs mascot Spirit of the Chief. He is a Medicine Hat paint with a bonnet, two blue eyes, and a pink muzzle which makes him very unique. Spirit of the Chief was born to Tumbleweed, a bay mare from the Little Book Cliffs wild horse range, that was adopted by Carolyn and Stan Gilbert of Grand Junction, Co. in our 2013 bait trapping gather. Spirit of the Chief's sire, Chief, was a popular favorite to wild horse viewers and the FOM members. Sadly Chief has since passed away. Come see Spirit of the Chief at our Friends of the Mustangs events!
