ABOUT US
In 1982, a group of people that really cared about the wild horses on the Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Range, established the organization. The organization is based in Grand Junction, Colorado. Most members are from the western slope of Colorado, though members are located across the United States.
The Friends of the Mustangs and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) working together assure that both the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range and the horses that live there are kept safe.
Our Volunteers coordinate their efforts with the range plan of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), assisting them in many ways with the care and maintenance of the wild horse herd. Some of our activities include: trail cleaning and marking, keeping springs and waterholes open, fixing fences, helping with the gathers and adoptions, checking on adoptees, and conducting a foal count each year.
In an effort to educate the public and adopters or potential adopters about horses in general and the mustangs in particular, we participate in various horse related activities such as DeBeque Wild Horse days, in DeBeque, Colorado, and The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo that is held in Durango, Eagle, and Denver.
Mustangs are smart, sturdy, versatile, and with proper training and care make a great horse to use in most any discipline. They are magnificent animals that deserve our respect and admiration, along with a helping hand.
